Actor Jeremy Renner was trying to stop his snow cat from hitting his nephew when he was pulled under a snowmobile and crushed on New Year’s Day, according to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office incident report.
The car began skidding sideways after the “Avengers” star used it to pull his nephew’s truck out of the snow, and the parking brake, which wasn’t engaged, would have stopped it, according to the revised accident report, which was filed Friday. The document was obtained by CNN on Tuesday through a public records request.
The report’s conclusion read, “The Pistenbully snow groomer began to skid causing Renner to exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake.”
“Although Pistenbully had some mechanical issues, it is believed based on our mechanical examination that the parking brake would prevent Pistenbully from moving forward. When Renner attempted to stop or turn Pistenbully to avoid injury [his nephew]He was pulled from under the car by the track and was run over.”
The report also states that the brake indicator light inside the vehicle’s cab is not working and that “mechanical issues may have been a factor in this accident.”
Renner was airlifted to the hospital, where he stayed for more than two weeks, underwent at least two surgeries and was treated in the intensive care unit.
A 911 call log obtained by CNN said Renner was “completely crushed under a large snowcat.” [vehicle]And he had an ‘extreme’ [difficulty] Breathing.” He went on to say, “The right side of his chest is collapsed — the upper torso is crushed.”
The accident began on New Year’s Day, when Renner pulled his nephew’s truck out of the actor’s driveway after it got stuck in the snow, he told investigators as he was hospitalized on Jan. 5, according to the accident report.
After successfully pulling the truck out of the snow and onto the street, Renner said the snowplow started “sliding sideways,” then “started rolling downhill.” At that point, Renner told investigators he had jumped off the snowplow.
As soon as he was away from Pistenbully, he realized that he was heading straight for [his nephew,]Reads the report. “He was afraid you would hit Bestenbuli [his nephew]so he decided to try to stop or divert the straits.”
The report notes that to enter the snowplow cabin, Renner had to climb onto the moving track. When he jumped onto the track, the report says that was when Renner was “immediately pulled down the left side lane.”
“Pistenbully turned on him and continued down the road,” the report says. He lay down on the floor and focused on his breathing while doing so [his nephew and others] They provided him with assistance until the medical staff arrived at the scene.”
Renner, who plays superhero Hawkeye in the Marvel movie and TV show “Universe,” says he broke more than 30 bones in the accident.
He posted a photo on Instagram last week with the caption: “Morning workouts all resolutions changed this particular New Year…. Tragedy for my entire family resulted fast focused on uniting actionable love ❤️ I want to thank everyone for their messages and thinking for my family and me…. Lots of love and appreciation to all of you. These 30 broken bones will mend and grow stronger, just as the love and bonding with family and friends deepen. Love and blessings to all of you.”
The report concluded that it did not believe that weakness was a factor in the accident.
